Cozumel is a beautiful island that is located in Mexico. There are a variety of activities that are offered year-long. Cozumel vacation information isn’t hard to come by since it’s a very popular location. Cozumel is where I went on my honeymoon and I quickly fell in love with the area.
In this post I will discuss three of the best things to do in Cozumel. My first recommendation is to visit the ancient Mayan ruins located nearby, next swimming with dolphins, and last but not least deep-sea diving off the cost of Cozumel.
The Mayan ruins of the Yucatan Peninsula are a breath taking experience for any person. These lost cities date back to nearly 2,000 years, which is considered a millennium! The Mayans were an intelligent race that practiced their mathematical genius on subjects such as astronomy and physics. Nobody understands why the Mayans disappeared, but their legends live today.
One of their most commonly referenced contributions is the Mayan calendar, which predicted future events that would occur in the world. Not all of the Mayan ruins are available on the island of Cozumel. There are daily Mayan ruins tours in and nearby Cozumel. The largest and most impressive Mayan ruins require a ferry ride back to the mainland of Mexico.
In my mind the Mayan ruins tours are without a doubt one of the best things to do in Cozumel. These tours can take you to Chichen Itza, Tulum, or Coba Mayan ruins, which are the major Mayan ruin sites that are visited daily by tourists. San Gervasio is a Mayan ruin that is located right in the middle of Cozumel. This is perfect for visitors and tourists looking for a quick experience right on Cozumel. It is truly a unique experience only found in this region. The stories that are told of the Mayan will move you and provide an experience found nowhere else in the world.
If you only have time for one Mayan ruins tour, you should visit Chichen Itza. Chichen Itza was recently named as one of the seven wonders of the world. This extensive list consists of the architectural wonders on the world. Ever visitor to the Yucatan peninsula, which includes Cozumel, should visit this very impressive Mayan city. Word to the wise make sure to drink lots of water as it is incredibly hot any you will easily get dehydrated. Also, a hat and sunscreen is a good idea.
If you do not have time to ferry back to the mainland, or you are uncomfortable with the idea, you should consider visiting San Gervasio. San Gervasio is not as large or impressive as the other Mayan ruins, but it is still a great experience. It also offers the convenience of the being located in the city of Cozumel. One of the best things to do in Cozumel is dolphin swimming, which is also referred to as a dolphin swim. This is an experience in which you’ll interact one on one with these magnificent and gentle creatures. It was twelve years ago that we went to Cozumel and my wife still talks about swimming with dolphins like it was yesterday.
Cozumel is known as Mexico’s most famous island, as it is also surrounded by the clear blue water of the Caribbean Sea. This offers visitors an unparalled level of beauty, as well as fun activities for tourists of all kinds. Another recommendation for you is to visit the Chankanaab National Park, which features the Dolphin Discovery Cozumel. While at Dolphin Discovery Cozumel, it is a great idea to visit Chankanaab National Park, which focuses on protecting the flora, fauna, and coral reef aspects of Cozumel.
The coral reefs make deep-sea diving an amazing experience. The clear blue water and the beautiful coral reefs are a breath-taking site for any tourist or visitor. My first ever experience scuba diving was right here in Cozumel. It was absolutely and amazing adventure, one that I will never forget. I was blown away by the variety of fish species and color variation. The water was crystal clear in fact it was so blue I don’t even know how to describe it to you. Many of tourist that I a have visited with have told me that Cozumel is one of the best places in the world for scuba diving.
Whatever you decide to do on your vacation I am sure you will have a great time. Keep in mind that there are many other activities for you to consider that we did not discuss in this post such as going to a local carnival, visiting a water parks or a zip line high adventure excursion.
